Project Case Study: Enhancing Security for Berrys
Background and Objectives
Berrys is a property management company, covering a wide range of services, from property surveys, to building planning an architecture.
Operating on a hybrid infrastructure model they want to move towards being fully cloud managed. They wanted some assistance raising their Cybersecurity posture to keep secure, comply with modern standards & ensure the trust of their clients and customers. Additionally, they hoped to make best use of modern workplace benefits.
Audit
With our experience & expertise, we investigated the systems at Berrys to discover all we could about their security posture, comparing against known best practices and standards like Cyber Essentials.
Our approach began with a thorough assessment of Berrys’ Secure Score to identify weaknesses and plan improvements. With an initial assessment completed, we worked with Berrys, raising them up to align with Cyber Essentials guidelines.
Security Enhancements Made
- Custom Anti-Phishing and Anti-Spam Policies: Developed policies to enhance protection, enabling mailbox intelligence and impersonation protection. Also adjusted outbound spam policies and enabled spam notifications for administrators.
- MFA Registration & Optimised Conditional Access policies: Rolled out MFA registrations with company-owned mobile devices and authenticator app, further enforcing this rule on critical admin groups. Also proposed the use of FIDO 2.0 keys for users with difficulty using other authentication methods.
- Implemented an app discovery policy via Defender XDR to identify and manage shadow IT activities.
- Restricted external sharing by disabling calendar sharing through Exchange Admin Centre. Also regulated installation of Outlook add-ins for approved applications only.
